First appointment

We can imagine that it might be a bit stressful to visit the cardiologist for the first time. After all, it is your heart we are talking about. What does the cardiological examination entail, what should you bring along, and what happens next?

What does your first appointment look like?

Upon arrival at our clinic, please check in at the reception desk. Here, you will be registered. After registration, you can take a seat in our waiting area, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. A nurse will then pick you up for an intake interview (consultation), followed by several examinations. The cardiologist will determine which examinations are necessary.

Intake consultation

Your consultation starts with a comprehensive conversation with one of our nurses. During this session, your medical history, personal circumstances, and symptoms will be discussed.

The tests

  • Blood draw
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG or heart tracing)
  • Echocardiogram
  • Exercise ECG

The result

After these tests have been completed, you will have a meeting with the cardiologist regarding the findings, a (preliminary) diagnosis, and a treatment plan. This will provide you with clarity within two hours.

We are there to answer all your questions

If there are any uncertainties or if you don't understand something during your first appointment, feel free to ask for clarification from the nurse, the ultrasound technician, or the cardiologist. We're here to assist you.

Preparing your visit

Please take the following items with you for your first appointment:

  • Insurance card and valid identification;
  • Possibly your list of medications or the packaging(s) of the medications you use;
  • Comfortable clothing for any exercise testing. We recommend women to bring a sports bra if you have one;
  • Your list of questions.

You are now well-prepared for your first appointment with us! If you still have any questions left, please do no hesitate to contact us.

Tip

At home, you can already take some time to think about the questions you would like to ask. It might help to write them down in your agenda or phone. This way, you prevent forgetting to ask them.

Treatment and Aftercare

At the end of your visit, after the intake interview and the examinations, the cardiologist will discuss the preliminary diagnosis with you. Together we will determine the next steps.

There are three possibilities:

  1. No treatment is necessary
  2. You will receive treatment with us. A treatment plan will be developed in consultation with you. Throughout the treatment, you will remain in contact with your cardiologist. Your general practitioner will also be kept informed throughout the entire treatment process.
  3. Additional testing or treatment is required If additional testing or treatment at the hospital is needed, we will assist you in getting this arranged. We collaborate closely with reputable hospitals and will determine where the best and fastest treatment is available for you. Of course, this can always be at the hospital of your choice. Further treatment can in most cases be continued with us.

In all three cases, we will inform your general practitioner within 24 hours of the consultation about the test results and the follow-up process.

We are there for you 24/7
