Important to know when making an appointment

If you have symptoms that could indicate cardiovascular problems (heart problems), see your GP first. Your GP will decide whether it is necessary to refer you to one of our centers.

If you have a referral from your GP, occupational health officer or another specialist, the healthcare services provided by Cardiologie Centra Nederland will be covered in full by your health insurance, after your excess has been paid.

Temporarily, a short waiting time may sometimes be unavoidable given the wide interest in our centers. We will try to resolve this as quickly as possible.

At such times, we can offer you an appointment at another location, and in urgent cases, your GP can contact the cardiologist and arrange a consultation within 24 hours.

First appointment

After you have been registered with our clinic, a nurse will take your medical history, a blood test and an ECG. After that, an ultrasound scan of your heart and of the artery in your neck will be performed. The final test is an exercise tolerance test on a stationary bike.

Once these tests have been completed, you will meet the cardiologist who will give you the results, a preliminary diagnosis and discuss a treatment plan.

What should you bring?

  • Health insurance card and proof of identity
  • Referral letter
  • List of any medication you take
  • Comfortable clothing in case you need to take the exercise tolerance test

You can arrange to be screened for cardiovascular diseases at any of our centers. There is no need for a referral. There is a charge for screening, but your health insurance may cover screening in certain cases.

Please ask your health insurer or consult your policy to find out what is covered and under which conditions.
